My husband’s job keeps changing their insurance and I m going through fertility treatment (now on Clomid) but i’m afraid if they change it again, it will be considered as a pre exhisting condition or they wont pay benefits when we do get preggo. I’m looking for an insurance just for me that I can pay & not have to worry about his company. PLEASE HELP…i would like to do this soon.

when your preganant the state you live in has to give you state health insurance once you have the child they will take the insurance away but your child will qualify intill it turn 18
Pregnancy can never be considered a pre-existing condition with group policies. Here is the government website concerning pre-existing conditions:
With individual policies maternity coverage is more of a pre-payment plan because no insurance company is going to pay out more for your delivery than they receive in premium. You will have waiting or reduced benefit periods before you will be fully covered. With group plans everyone on the plan, even single males, pay more for the insurance to cover the maternity benefits which makes the premium for you lower.
You are better off staying on the group plan.
actually to clarify the answers you’ve already received. With the first answer maybe that’s the way it works in that person’s state, but in most states it does not. If you’re pregnant and need coverage it’ll be hard to find…if not impossible.
To clarify the second answer yes many indiviudal policies do work almost like a prepayment plan, but depending on where you live you may be able to find an individual policy that treats maternity just like any other illness or injury, so that answer is not correct (entirely) either.
If the company changes the group policy you shouldn’t have to worry about it for the pregnancy. BUT, fertiliity isn’t always covered.
So, the answer to your question is…it depends on where you live…
Well, there isn’t one. Independent maternity coverage is like independent fertility coverage - only the people who plan on using it, buy it, so the price is through the roof.
It has a waiting period of usually 270 days, so you have to pay for it 9 months BEFORE conception, and it’s hundreds of dollars a month - effectively, you’re just pre-paying the benefits.
If your husband’s group policy keeps getting switched over with no lapse, it’s not going ot matter - they can’t exclude ANY pre-existiong conditions under those circumstances.
As it was mentioned, once you ARE pregnant, you are not going to find ANYONE to give you a private health insurance policy. So IF you want the private policy, you have to buy it BEFORE you get pregnant. But I think once you weigh the $500 a month premiums for you, vs, your husband’s plan that keeps changing, you’ll probably stay on his plan.
