Will my health issues effect my life insurance acceptance?

slovesn asked:

I am a 27 year old female, scheduled to have a medical exam tomorrow for a $250k life insurance policy I applied for. I’m a little nervous about how my health issues may effect my insurability.

1) I have ADHD, for which I take 80mg Strattera, daily;
2) I have disc degeneration at three levels in my lower back, for which I occasionally (1 x a week or less) take Vicodin and/or Tizanidine to control the pain. I do not plan to have surgery for this issue, as it does not have a big impact on my life.

Will either or both of these issues effect my insurability? The ADHD is treated by my primary doctor, which I will certainly have to disclose. The Strattera will show up on my blood test anyway. However, is it necessary that I disclose that I am also seeing an orthopedic doctor a few times per year? Niether the Vicodin or Tizanidine will be detected in my blood or urine, as it has been over two weeks since I have taken either.

Serious answers only, please. Thank you

    some insurance companies don’t accept it for certain health issues most being already diagnosed heart conditions. I have ADD, Endometrosis, and A thyroid issue and I was accepted for health insurance just a week ago. It really all depends on the company, if you read the little books and pamplets they give you it should say in there.

    The ADHD might lead to an uprate, but shouldn’t affect the acceptance.

    The disc degeneration at your age is HIGHLY unusual. I think that’s going to raise some red flags, and they’re going to want to know what the problem is, that’s causing it.

    Pain patients tend to develop other problems your doctor may have discussed with you because of the stress of constant struggle. The medications may also impact your liver function tests - your doctor’s records will tell a better story than this isolated test. I’m really wondering what the underlying cause is for the degeneration…

    ADHD will really only factor in if it is not well controlled or if you also suffer from depression or anxiety.

    I would expect standard plus to standard as a best case scenario. Good luck.

    1. ADHD is no big deal and will not affect the rate that you pay.

    2. The back problem does not affect your life insurance rates, the only question/concern from underwriting would be if there were a question of addiction to pain killers which doesn’t sound like the case.

    it doesnt matter if these show up in your system as they would be expected to be there based on review of your medical records for underwriting.
