somewhat important female health question?

[.T.] asked:

ok. so about a year & a half ago i had a cyst rupture on my ovary & a tumor there as well. they removed the cyst, tumor & an ovary & fallopian tube but because of the ruptured cyst, it left behind a bunch of fluid & there were some cancerous cells there. an oncologist did a check up every month for a year & each time everything was normal. so after that i didn’t go back & haven’t been back in about a year, even though i was supposed to. well i currently don’t have health insurance (i did at the time, that’s one reason i haven’t gone back). & i was contemplating going to planned parenthood for an exam & possibly birth control because they are income-based. SO my questions are:

1. can planned parenthood do that kind of check-up? to make sure i don’t have, or develop, cancer? or will i have to go to a professional? i would like to avoid the higher cost doctors haha.

2. can that type of health issue also cause chest pain? i’ve been having some pains every now & then & a lot of it could be stress/anxiety, plus i’m a smoker. so they may have nothing to do with each other. but i just thought i would throw that in there.

any answers are appreciated & please answer seriously. if you don’t know, then don’t tell me “i don’t know”. & don’t be rude either.
thanks!! =)

Well I would suggest getting health insurance and going to your physician. What’s one doctors visit compared to a lifetime of agony. AND QUIT SMOKING

Oh honey, if you had cancer you simply must STOP SMOKING. really, you are really playing with fire. Call planned parenthood and ask, they may be able to set you up with a social worker who could help you get on some type of aide so that you could have some coverage of visits. You can look in your local phone book under county services and start there , too. You simply can not ignore your health.

Yea they can. There are some clinics specifically meant to serve low-income people. Look around in your are for a program that serves youths and young adults and has health check ups. I used to go to one and I would get pap smear exams free. Planned parenthood will give you pap smears to detect cancerous cells if there are any.

The chest pain could most likely be from the smoking. And it’s a good thing you brought that up because you may wanna quit smoking. I read that smoking increases your risk of developing cervical and vulva cancer. God bless and I pray that your alright!

I don’t believe that the average planned parenthood does routine pelvic exams for that sort of issue. However, there has to be a “free clinic” somewhere in your city. Yes, the wait is forever. Yes, the conditions are not always great. However, the doctors are doctors and they can make sure to check you over. The chest pain is most likely associated with the increased stress and smoking. (depending on your age and how long you have smoked determines the most likely of the two) Find a clinic, not the ER, but a reduced income or free clinic, and get checked real soon. Best of luck to you.
